Abstract
The article presents the results of a study of zinc-modified hydroxyapatite samples obtained by liquid-phase microwave synthesis and containing impurity phases of calcium and zinc orthophosphates. The phases were identified and their crystallographic parameters were determined using X-ray phase and X-ray structural analyses. The qualitative and quantitative phase composition of the obtained samples depends on the amount of doped zinc ions. The main phase of the obtained samples is hydroxyapatite of the composition Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2. The surface of the samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray spectral microanalysis. Zinc introduced during the synthesis is present on the surface of all samples; its distribution is uneven, indicating the presence of zinc-containing impurity phases. The antibacterial properties of a series of hydroxyapatite samples modified with zinc ions (0.1; 0.3; 0.5 mol) were assessed against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The results obtained during testing of samples for manifestation of antibacterial activity show that all synthesized samples exhibit bactericidal properties. The ability and dynamics of formation of calcium phosphate layer on the surface of samples in SBF solution were studied. In comparison with unmodified hydroxyapatite, the processes of precipitation and crystallization prevail over the process of dissolution in the model solution in the obtained samples
